Sky
Select a blue for the sky and select the Gradient Tool.
Drag blue from top to bottom.
Your Background layer should now look something like this…
Basket
Insert a new layer; rename it “basket”.
Set your primary color to brown…
Select the Rounded Rectangle shape.
Set to Draw Filled Shape.
Draw a rectangle about this size…
Go to Effects > Photo > Glow …
Bottom of Balloon
Insert a new layer; rename it “bottom”
Change the color to dark grey.
Draw a smaller round rectangle for the bottom of the balloon like this…
Then go to Effects > Repeat Glow.
Ropes
Insert a new layer at the top; rename it “ropes”
Select the Line/Curve tool.
Draw a line straight down like this.
Click off to set the line; then click and drag an angled lined.
Click off and repeat with 1 more on the left and 2 angled ones on the right.
Now move the ropes layer below the “bottom” and “basket” layers.
The top & bottom of the ropes should now be hidden behind the other layers…
Balloon Shape
Insert a new layer; name it “balloon”.
With the Line/Curve tool still selected, change the thickness to 10.
Set the primary color that you want your balloon to be.
Click and drag a line over the “bottom”, all of it inside the rectangle shape…
Click & drag the middle circles up to create your balloon shape.
Draw a closing line across “bottom” again, to close the shape – make sure the ends are touching the edges of your other balloon lines.
Select the Paint Bucket tool.
Click inside your balloon shape to fill it with the same color.
Your layers should now look like this…
Inside the Balloon
Duplicate #1
- Duplicate the balloon layer.
- Change the color:
- go to Adjustments > Hue Saturation…
- Adjust the Hue slider to get a different color.
- Squish it:
- Select the Move Select Pixels tool.
- Click on your canvas, then adjust the side circles/handles to squish the balloon like this…
Duplicate #2
- Duplicate layer…
- Change the color using Adjustments > Hue/Saturation…
- Squish in the sides.
Duplicate #3
- Duplicate layer…
- Change the color using Adjustments > Hue/Saturation…
- Squish in the sides.
Duplicate #4
- Duplicate layer…
- Change the color using Adjustments > Hue/Saturation…
- Squish in the sides.
Layers
Deselect (get rid of dotted outline) using CTRL+D.
So your layers should look like this now…
With the top layer active, click on the Merge Layers button a few times, until all the balloon layers are together, but not including the original balloon layer.
Rename the top balloon layer to “inside”.
Move the bottom layer up, above inside.
Effects
Crystalize
Make sure the inside layer is active/selected.
Go to Effects > Distort > Crystalize…
Resize Inside
We need to resize the inside so nothing is outside our balloon shape.
Select the Rectangle Select tool and draw select the inside area…
Then use the Move tool to squish/move it like this…
CTRL+D to deselect.
Soften Portrait
Select the balloon layer…
Go to Effects > Photo > Soften Portrait…
Clouds
Insert a new layer; rename it “cloud L”.
Switch your colors so white is the primary/front one…
Go to the Shapes tool – set it to Callout.
Click and drag out a cloud so it’s covering part of the balloon; rotate it and…
… move it so the smaller circles are not visible (off the canvas). Click off to se the shape.
Insert another new layer; name it “cloud R”.
Draw another cloud on the other side, cover the balloon a bit; make sure the small circles are not showing.
Move the cloud R layer down, behind the balloon.
Cloud Effects
Glow
Start by adding a glow. Go to Effects > Photo > Glow …
Move the Contrast slider all the way down.
Then select the cloud L layer and go to Effects > Repeat Glow to apply to the other cloud layer.
Vignette
Then go to Effects Photo > Vignette…
Play with the 4-pointed arrow to get just a bit of grey on the bottom/edges like this…
Select the other cloud layer and do the same.
