Search for Animate and open Adobe Animate 2023.

Welcome Video

If you get a pop-up window asking if you are new to Animate. Click on YES.

Then you can watch an intro video (don’t need headphones). Use the top-right X to close the window when you are done.

Otherwise you can watch it later from the Home screen.

How to get to in-app tutorials

If you see a pop-up window with suggested tutorials, you can click on it if you see it there.

Learn window

Another way is to go to the Learn window… and then click on show all in-app tutorials on the right…

… scroll down to find the tutorial you want to do next.

Help menu

Another quick way is to go to the Help menu at the top and then find them under Hands-on Tutorial.

Workspace

Your workspace should look something like this when you start.

If it doesn’t, go to the top/right and click on Workspaces > and choose “Basic”.

New Layer

Lock layer

Playhead

Scrub through the animation.

Insert Frames

The default is set to Auto Keyframe

The main other option using the drop-down menu is to insert regular frames (F5).

Add Tweening

Assets

There are 2 types of assets: Animated & Static. You can also click on the link at the bottom to watch an intro video explaining how to work with assets.

Properties

Tool

If you have a tool selected, the options for that tool can be changed here:

Object

If you have something on your stage selected, you can adjust the size here. You will often use the button to convert to symbol.

You can see all your symbols in the Library tab…

If you double-click and go into a symbol, you can get back to the main scene/stage by clicking the back arrow…

Frame

If you are clicked in the Timeline on a frame…

… or a keyframe…

… you can add/edit things like Tweens, Color Effects and Filters.

Doc

You can change the size of your document/stage and other settings.

Window View

You can change the stage view here…
