Tree Shape
Insert a new layer, rename it “tree”.
Set the primary color to green.
- First click on a click square or somewhere on the circle.
- Go to More and then move the V slider a bit down.
- Then click on Less to collapse the color box.
Choose the Shape tool.
Set the Shape tool to Trapezoid.
Set the shape to draw Filled Only.
Draw a big trapezoid near the bottom of your canvas (leave some room for the tree trunk later).
Click off to set the shape before drawing the next one.
Draw 3 or 4 more overlapping trapezoids.
Change the shape tool to Triangle.
Draw a small triangle for the top of the tree – make sure you have some room for a star later.
Make sure the tree is in its own layer…
… not in Background!
Trunk
Change the primary color to a brown.
Insert a new layer, call it “trunk”.
Draw a trapezoid shape for the trunk.
Move the trunk layer under/below the tree layer.
Star
Insert a new layer, call it “star”.
Change the primary color to yellow.
Change the shape tool to the Star shape (either 5 or 6 pointed)
Draw out a star and rotate/move it how you like.
So far you have this…
Background
Change your primary color to blue (or another color). You can change both colors if you like.
Select the Gradient Tool.
Make sure your Background layer is active… then click and drag down the canvas.
To set the gradient, click on any other layer/tool or [Enter].
Effects
Tree
Select the tree layer and go to Effects>Distort>Crystalize
Glow: Trunk
Select the trunk layer and add Effects>Photo>Glow
It should look like this..
Glow: Star
Select the star layer and Repeat Glow
Fragment: Star
Also add Effects>Blurs>Fragment to the star layer.
First Ribbon
Insert a new layer, call it “ribbon”.
Change your color to red (or another bright color).
Select the Line/Curve tool. Set the thickness to 10.
Draw an angled line that will go outside both sides…
Push/pull the circles to create a curved line like this…
Duplicate Ribbons
Duplicate the ribbon layer.
Then select the Move tool, click on the canvas and move the ribbon up.
Repeat until you have about 5 ribbons/layers.
- Duplicate the layer.
- Move the ribbon up
When you’ve moved the top one, CTRL+D to deselect (get rid of the dotted outline).
Merge Layers
With the top ribbon layer selected, click on the Merge button to combine the ribbon layers together until they’re in one layer (but not combined with star etc).
Ribbon Effect
With the ribbon layer selected, go to Effects > Distort > Dents
Reduce the Scale amount to about 10…
Delete Ribbons Outside Tree
- Click on the tree layer.
- Select the Magic Wand Tool.
- Click outside the tree, in the sky (we want to select everything except the tree shape).
- Make the ribbon layer active again.
- Delete (not Backspace).
Ornaments
Insert a new layer, call it “ornaments”.
Draw shapes – circles / stars / callout.
Add the Blurs>Fragment effect to the ornaments.
