Intro to Photoshop
Layers
- To unlock the Background layer, click on the padlock icon which changes it into “Layer 0″…
- Rename a layer by double-clicking on the layer name, type new name and [Enter].
- Show/hide the layer using the eye icon on the left…
There are buttons at the bottom of the Layers panel you will use a lot.
- Delete layer
- Insert a new layer
Tools
On the left you have the Tools panel where you will select tools.
If you click and hold some buttons, you will see more tools.
When you’ve selected a tool, you will see the options for that tool at the top in the Options Bar…
Under Rectangle, you’ll see 6 shapes…
To use a Custom Shape, select that tool…
… and then go up to the Options Bar on the far right to find
History Panel
As you do things in Photoshop, the steps show up in the History panel…
You can use CTRL+Z to undo the last step you did, or you can go back to any step by clicking on the step in the list…
Views
- The Zoom tool lets you make your photo bigger/smaller.
- Double-click on the Zoom tool = view at 100%
- The option bar gives you 2 options: zooming in or out.
- Double click the Hand tool = zoom to fit the screen
- Hold the Space Bar to quickly use the Hand/Move tool
Colors
At the bottom of the toolbar are the Colors
You can use keyboard shortcuts or the buttons near the color squares:
‘D‘: Default colors
‘X‘: switch colors
To set the foreground color, click on the square … this opens up the Color Picker window
