Smart Object
Go to layer options for the photo layer and Convert to Smart Object.
You should now see this icon on the photo layer thumbnail.
Filter Gallery
With the photo layer selected, go to Filter menu at the top…
Choose Filter Gallery…
You may need to resize the window so you can still see the instructions.
Glass
Use the arrow to open the Distort folder…
Click on Glass (3, 3, canvas, 100%).
Click OK and you should see this…
Your should see Smart Filters in your Layers panel like this…
Paint Daubs
Now go to Filter Gallery again… go to the Artistic folder…
- choose Paint Daubs (4, 1, simple).
Click on OK and your photo should look like this…
This filter is the new on at the top of the Smart Filters…
Angled Strokes
Go to Filter Gallery again … go to the Brush Strokes folder…
- choose Angled Strokes (45, 5, 1).
Click on OK and your photo should look like this…
You’ll see another filter in the Layers panel…
Texturizer
Go to Filter Gallery again … go to Texture …
- choose Texturizer (canvas, 200%, 4, top).
Click OK and the photo should look like this…
Your layer should look like this…
Adjustment layer: Hue/Saturation #1
Add an adjustment layer …
Choose Hue/Saturation. You should see a new layer like this…
Go to Properties and slide Saturation all the way down.
Change the layer blend mode from ‘Normal’ to ‘Overlay’.
Then change the layer opacity down to 50%.
Adjustment layer: Hue/Saturation #2
Add another Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
Go to Properties and increase Saturation to about 50.
Change Photo
Double-click on the smart object icon on the photo layer.
This will open the photo in a new file tab (PSB).
Click on one of the photos below to get the full-size image, then right-click and “Copy Image”.
Then paste it into the new tab (CTRL+V).
CTRL+S to save the PSB file; when it doesn’t have an * anymore, go back to the main document/tab.
You will see the photo layer is updated and you have a new painting.
Desktop Background
- Save your working PSD file first (CTRL+S).
- Then go to File > Save a Copy or ALT+CTRL+S…
- Use the drop-down menu for the file type – select JPEG.
When the file type is JPEG, click on Save.
You’ll get a pop-up window asking about JPEG quality. It should be between 8-12. Then just click OK.
Now go to your OneDrive > COMP 8 > Photoshop folder and right-click on the “Oil Painting copy” file that doesn’t have the PS icon… choose Set as desktop background.
