Getting Started

  1. Copy this text for the title: Spaghetti Carbonara
  2. Paste it (CTRL+V) and choose this option – Keep Text Only.
  1. [Enter] to the next line.

Go to the Insert tab and go to the Table button…

Use the drop-down menu >Insert Table… set to columns to 2 and rows to 7 and click OK.

It should look like this so far…

Add Text

Type text

Type the following text into the table as shown below:

Merge Cells

Select the cells in the first row, and go to Layout and Merge

Select the last row and Merge it as well.

So you should now have something like this…

Copy in text

Copy the text below and paste it into the first row.

The easiest pasta dish you will ever make with just 5 ingredients in 15 min, loaded with Parmesan and crisp bacon goodness!

Copy the text below into the cell below Ingredients

8 ounces spaghetti
2 large eggs
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
4 slices bacon, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
Kosher salt & freshly ground pepper, to taste

Copy the text below into the bottom row for Directions

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook pasta according to package instructions; reserve 1/2 cup water and drain well.
In a small bowl, whisk together eggs and Parmesan; set aside.
Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add bacon and cook until brown and crispy, about 6-8 minutes, reserve excess fat.
Stir in garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute. Reduce heat to low.
Working quickly, stir in pasta and egg mixture, and gently toss to combine, season with salt and pepper, to taste. Add reserved pasta water, one tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

Then select all the text on your page (CTRL+A) and Clear Formatting.

Click on the empty lines inside the table and Backspace to delete them…

So you should have this before continuing…

Fonts

Default font

Select all your text (CTRL+A) and change the font type to Century Gothic, size 12.

Row 1

Select the text in the first row and change the font type to Ink Free and size 16.

Page Heading

Select the page heading and change the font type to Amatic SC, pump it up to size 48, make it bold.

Row 2-4

Select row 2-4 and change the font type to Amatic SC, size 24, and bold.

Select just row 3 and make it not bold.

Row 6

Select the Directions row and make it Amatic SC, size 24, and bold.

This is what you should have so far…

Lists

Ingredients List

Select the text in the box below Ingredients (hover next to the cell and when you see the thick black arrow, click).

Make it a bulleted list.

Directions List

Select the text for the Directions and make it a numbered list.

Alignment

Cell Alignment

Select the table and change cell alignment to middle-middle.

Select the ingredients list and align it back to the default/left.

Do the same for the directions list.

Page Heading

Select the page heading and make it centered.

So far you should have this…

Filling up the page

Bottom Margin

Hover over the Ruler where the margin stars (white/grey), when you get a 2-pointed arrow and it says Bottom Margin, pull down to the 1/2″ mark.

Paragraph spacing

  1. Select all the text on the page (CTRL+A) and go to Paragraph options.
  2. Set the paragraph spacing to 6pt before & after, line spacing to Single and make sure the box is empty (not shaded or checked).

Picture

Select the right 3 table cells like this…

Go to Layout and Merge Cells

Copy the picture below…

Paste it into the empty cell…

Go to the Picture Format tab…

  1. Crop > Aspect Ratio > 3:4
  2. Set the Height to 3.8″

Set the Picture Style to this one (faded edges).

The picture should look like this…

You will have an empty blank page, click on it…

…then Clear Formatting

The empty line should now be on the first page.

Borders & Shading

Shading

  1. Select the 2nd row and fill with a darker color.
  1. Use the Paint Bucket button to set the Ingredients and Directions cells to the same color.

You don’t need to select the row/cell, you can just click in the cells so your cursor is blinking.

So far your table looks like this…

No border

Select the table and set to No Border.

Font colors

Table headings

Set the font color for the heading cells to white.

Page Heading

Set the page heading text to the same color as the shaded boxes.

This should be your result.
