Day 1

This course is part of the Applied Skills 8 rotation (16-20 classes).

HTML/CSS

Students will work on creating a website using Notepad++ with a home page and 4 subpages. They will learn to use HTML tags to link the pages together with a navbar. They will format the text using tags for headings and lists. They will add pictures to each page, changing the width and alignment. Then students will use CSS to add design to their website – background picture, colors, link styles and fonts.

Game Design

Students will create 2-D arcade games using GameMaker. Coding skills are developed when creating objects and adding events and actions to them. Design skills are used in creating playing levels; this process involves creativity and design elements such as objects and tiling backgrounds. One of the challenges is designing playing levels that are challenging but also fun to play.

Photoshop

Students will develop basic graphic design skills in Photoshop such as:

  • Layers, adjustment layers, layer styles; masking
  • Selecting tools
  • Drawing & Retouching tools (brushes, shapes, text)
  • Filters
